Paula Barragan was born in Quito, Ecuador, in 1963. She obtained her BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in design and illustration at the Pratt Institute in New York. She also attended courses in engraving and painting in Parsons, N.Y. and San Francisco Art Institute, CA.
Since 1987 she has maintained her own workshop in Quito, where she designs rugs, logos, posters, illustrations and covers, but her most important work has been in the field of art, painting engraving and drawing, making numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, New Zealand and other countries. Her works of art are in the Museum of the Central Bank of Ecuador as well as in private collections in the United States, Italy, Great Britain, and Ecuador.
