About Istoriali

About Istoriali

The golden Trialeti goblet shimmered in the spotlight and its decoration with deep red and green semi-precious stones was perfectly highlighted. Although a reproduction, the goblet has been beautifully made by hand using the same skills as the ancient craftsmen who made the original goblet in the 17th century BC which clearly displays their skill as goldsmiths. The original goblet is displayed in the Georgian National Museum and modern though this replica goblet is, it has a special depth to it and its motifs portray a rich history from an ancient world that inspired its modern craftsman... Istoriali is a social enterprise that was founded by the Georgian Arts and Culture Centre (an NGO) in 2001. Istoriali produces a beautiful range of 200 different decorative items based on Georgian history and cultural heritage motifs, including jewellery for both women and men plus small decorative ornaments and copies of ancient bowls. The range of high-quality handicrafts and gifts have been inspired by archaeological artifacts that have been excavated in Georgia. Some of the handicrafts have been re-created using traditional methods and others are decorated with patterns that were first used by ancient cultures. All have been beautifully handmade by local artists and artisans. The philosophy of Istoriali is to preserve the unique historic value of the archaeological item or its design by carefully adapting it for modern use and in so doing, introducing the wealth of Georgian culture to the public in a range of unique items that can be treasured for years to come. The collection is inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Georgia which is based on discoveries from archaeological excavations in Armaziskhevi, Samtavro, Pichvnari and Bedeni, amongst others. Interestingly, Georgia is one of the oldest hearths of metallurgy in the world and in the 4th-3rd millennia BC, ancestors of the Georgians were already producing bronze. In the same period, they also mastered working with silver and gold. The impressive number of gold items uncovered by archaeological excavations are now displayed in the collections of the Georgian museums. Eterne brings you an exciting collection of some of the items made by Istoriali that perfectly entwine ancient history in modern design...
